Ieva Mėlinauskė, Kindergarten "Rugiagėlė", Šiauliai, Lithuania

We organized a project exhibition at our kindergarten. The exhibition could be visited by kindergarten colleagues and the children's parents.

I created my eTwinning school bulletin board at school. The children's parents could see how we were managing to carry out the project activities.

At the end of the project, we planted a peach tree in the kindergarten yard.

We talked with the children about how we need to protect our Earth. We made the Earth out of bottle caps with the children.

We talked with the children about saving energy, what possible ways of producing energy there are. The children cut out and glued pictures, and in this way we created a poster.

We discussed with the children what can be found in nature. So, from the options provided, we chose tree branches, pebbles, hazelnuts, chestnuts. We listened to the sounds of natural materials placed in bottles, and we also tried out the individual sounds of pebbles, stones and twings.

We made musical instruments out of yogurt containers and cgildren's eggs. We filled them with various grains (rice, beans, dried peas, buckwheat).

We talked to the children about air pollution. We explained how to avoid it. So, we got acquainted with wind turbines. We explained how they work and what benefits they provide. The children were fascinated and eagerly wanted to make their own wind turbine.

The children helped the drop of water not to get lost and led it through the maze.

We collected fallen leaves outside and created our own little trees. During these activities, we reinforced the names of the trees, the children were able to recognize which leaf belonged to which tree, and learned to work as a team.

We discussed with the children what is needed for plants to grow. We found out that they need soil so that the plants have somewhere to put their roots and water for growth. So after planting the seeds, the children watched every day to see when the grass would sprout, and watered it every day. And a week later we had a harvest.

Cerasela Lungeanu, Kindergarten no. 13, Targoviste, Romania

Inspired by Peppa Pig`s lesson on compost, the children created a miniature compost bin (a lunchbox for the Earth), using food scraps, paper and leaves. Their message is: Do not throw it away, give it back to the Earth!
